Fountain Pen Writing

Words I've held...

Writing has been part of my life since childhood. I began creating characters and storylines as early as third grade, by sixth grade I was crafting my own songs. In seventh grade, I fell in love with poetry through the works of E.E. Cummings and found new angles and points of view that could be formulated through writing. A quiet observer of the world, I often wrote about the strangers I encountered while keeping my own experiences tucked away in poems, songs, and journals. During my early twenties, I also ventured into writing op-ed pieces- sharing my views on politics, current events and social commentary featured at various newspapers throughout the southeast.

For years, I kept my most intimate writing to myself, sharing pieces of who I was through poetry and songwriting. That changed in 2023 when I joined the House of Ruth Maryland Storyteller Program and shared a twelve-minute memoir before an audience of more than 900 people. Putting my story into the world was an incredible release, one that inspired me to return to school and deepen my relationship with writing. I am now pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Baltimore, continuing to develop my voice and craft.
